Working at heights is a broad area and one that is often overlooked or inadequately controlled or managed which can result in significant incident or accident potential to inflicting harm and/or equipment damage all of which impact the business bottom line. Some of the signs that can indicate the hidden risk in the workplace can be seen in the “incidents reports” or “near misses” but if these are not reported or well managed they will not assist in the flagging up of the potential issues and/or the risk reduction control identification and implementation processes that need to be in play.
Some areas that make up the “Working at Heights” work, some of which are often overlooked;
- Work being carried out above other work levels
- Work being introduced into areas below other work areas levels
- Work being carried out from a ladder
- Work being carried out from stairways/balconies
- Work being carried out in a EWP/Crane Man Work Basket
- Work being carried out on a roof top
- Work in a Harness
- Restraint or fall arrest systems
- Work in a place with the potential to cause harm as a result of uncontrolled or loss of stability close to an area of sufficient height differential
PJC has “Systems and Procedures” to assist in the management and control of both “Specialised Tasks” and “High Risk Activities” such as “Standards”, “Procedures” and “Permits” all available for site use or tailoring to your system requirements.
